Icarus as a postman

'Daedalus and Icarus'

I created this alteration from an old painting (Anthony van Dyck 1515/1525), in which Daedalus from Greek mythology is teaching his son Icarus to fly with waxed wings. He warns him not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea.

The story ends up that Icarus flu too close to the sun and his wings melted. He fell into the sea and drowned into the area, which today bears his name, the Icarian Sea. 

Well, now I went far from my creation. In my picture the father of Icarus is warning him, but Icarus has now a different duty. He must deliver an air mail letter....

I made my creation for the theme 'Mailbox' at Dreamers Challenge May 25.

'Ikaros postinkantajana'

Tein tämän digityöni käyttäen siinä vanhaa maalausta (Anthony van Dyck 1615/1625), jossa Kreikan mytologian hahmo Daedalus opettaa poikaansa Ikarosta lentämään vahatuilla siivillä. Isä varoittaa häntä lentämästä liian lähelle aurinkoa ja merta. Sinä, joka tunnet koko tarinan tiedät, että Ikaros lensi liian lähelle aurinkoa, vaha suli ja Ikaros putosi mereen ja hukkui paikassa, jonka nimi on nyt Ikarianmeri.

En tiedä onnistuiko se, mutta joka tapauksees tein työni teemaan 'Postilaatikko' ;)
