'Magic of Sami drum'
I'm so glad I live in the world where there are Octobers.
I am telling you more about the 'Ruska' color in Lapland of Finland, and the 'Sami' people which are the descendants of nomadic people who had inhabited northern Scandinavia. In Finland there are 10 000 Sami. They have an own Sami language and culture. The traditional Sami livelihoods are fishing, gathering, handicrafts, hunting , reindeer herding and the modern ways of practicing them. The Sami people of Finland, Sweden and Norway have a rich spiritual history that reflects their culture and traditional way of life. A Sami drum is a shamanic ceremonial drum. The drumhead is fashioned from reindeer hide.
I illustrated my way that magic shamanic event in Lapland.
For my page I made the background using these two pages beneath:
The first paper
The second paper is a photo
The Sami drum image
I include beneath also a photo of the traditional Sami costume:
I made the background of my page altering the pages with digital painting, several filtering and effects. The colors are Lapland's Autumn ruska like. Other images are freebies and altered by me.
I'm linking the page at the Tracey's theme 'October Favorite Color' at Art Journal Journey this month.
Thank you for visiting.

'Ruska-maisema Lapista'
Tämän 'Saamelaisen rummun taikaa'- art journal-sivuni tein teemaan 'Lokakuun suosikki väri' Art Journal Journey haasteblogissa. Kerron englanninkielisessä tekstissä perustietoa saamelaisista ja heidän elämäntavastaan ja kulttuuristaan. Heitä on Suomessa tällä hetkellä noin 10 00.
Stunning art and photos!

VastaaPoistaA beautiful post - it's good to know that the Sami people are keeping traditions alive. Your page has such wonderful Ruska colours. Thank you so much for sharing this at Art Journal Journey, hugs, Chrisx
VastaaPoistaI love this word Ruska. IT works here when our leaves finally turn colors. They are late this year. Your page is beautiful Sirkkis. I love how you included the 2 reindeer in the moon/drum image. When I was a child my mother's cousin came from Sweden and stayed with us for awhile. For Christmas that year she sent each of us children traditional Sami reindeer boots. I haven't thought about those boots for a long time. Thanks for sharing those photo. I enjoyed the memory. I hope you had a wonderful day. Hugs-Erika
VastaaPoistaI really enjoyed learning about the Sami people. It was interesting to learn they have their ow language and culture. I thought it was especially interesting to learn about their way of life and their spiritual endeavors. I specifically enjoyed reading about the Sami drum with the drum head made of reindeer hide. Add to that the Ruska color and you have a fabulous entry. I was so glad you showed the many layers you used to create this Ruska color. Thanks for sharing this great history and cultural lesson, as well as your great art with us using Tracey's theme at Art Journal Journey, dear Sirkkis.
