Meaning of Lucia (Saint Lucy)

In Finland (as in Sweden, Norway and Denmark) each year a young maiden is chosen to represent Saint Lucia. Finland's Lucia is crowned in the Cathedral of Helsinki, and followed by the Lucia Parade in the center of the city. Lucia is dressed in a white dress with a red sash and with a wreath of candles on her hair.

This symbolizes bringing the Light of Christ into the world's darkness.
I'm linking my digital page on the Tracey's theme 'Meaning of' at Art Journal Journey Challenge this month.

'Lucian tarkoitus'
Lucian päivää vietetään meillä kuten myös Ruotsissa, Tanskassa ja Norjassa Pyhän Lucian muistoksi vuosittain 13. joulukuuta, ja se on myös vuoden lyhin päivä. Lucia tuo valoa talven pimeyteen. Lucia-neito on puettu valkeaan pukuun, jossa on punainen satiininauhavyö, ja hän kantaa päässään seppelettä, jossa palavat kynttilät.  Tämä kaikki symboloi Saint Lucy'a, joka tuo valon kristilliseen maailman.
Linkitän työni teemoihin 'Jonkun tarkoitus' ja 'Kynttilät'.

  8. I've been studying Christmases around the world, and I was so surprised that Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark all celebrate this day, This is an absolutely incredible journal entry and filled with history, which I love. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey, dear.
