For the Elle's theme Fairytales, Folklore & Fables -Tel me a story at Art Journal Journey this month.
Hans Christian Andersen(1805-1875) was a Danish author. He is best remembered for his literature fairy tales, especially 'The Little Mermaid'. The story follows the journey of a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea as a mermaid to gain a human soul. The tale was firs published 1837 as a part of a collection of fairy tales for children. Anderson chose to write a tragic story with a happy end. It has been adapted to various media, including musical theatre, anime, ballet, opera, and film. There is also a statue portraying the mermaid in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the story was written and first published. You see it on my digital art journal page.
Thank you for visiting.

'Pieni Merenneito'
Hans Christian Andersenin (1805-1875) oli tanskalainen kirjailija. Hänet tunnetaan hänen saduistaan, etenkin Pieni merenneito-sadusta. Se kertoo nuoren merenneidon matkasta meressä. Se on traaginen satu, jolla on onnellinen loppu. Satu on sovitettu monille eri esitysmuodoille kuten musiikkiteatteri, baletti, ooppera ja filmi. Pieni merenneito-patsas, kivellä istuva merenneito, on Kööpenhaminan satamassa. Satu on tässä kaupungissa kirjoitettu ja ensikertaa esitetty.

This was one of the ideas I had for Elle's challenge, but I don't know if I could make such a nice page as you did. I am loving your mermaids and your write up about Hans Christian Andersen. I saw that statue many years ago. I hope all is well, and thank you for joining us for Elle's challenge at AJJ. hugs-Erika
VastaaPoistaHi Sirkkis, love your Little Mermaid page today. I have also been to Copenhagen and seen the statue, it's so much smaller than I thought it would be! Thanks for joining me for the October theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle/Empire of the Cat xx
VastaaPoistaI too have seen the little mermaid in Copenhagen, many years ago when I visited an International Camp and stayed with a guy named Henrik (with another Girl Guide). Our original host dropped out when we arrived in Denmark and Henrik put us up in his home next to his parents house.
VastaaPoistaI love the story, in fact I was thinking of Danny Kaye the other week. Loved the film. Your various mermaids are all so different and yet you have married them to one another perfectly in your journal page.
Hugs, Neet xx
This is a stunning piece. I am always so impressed with your art.
VastaaPoistaThank you ladies. There are many different versions of Andersen's Little Mermaid, and here I interpreted the original fairy tale, which is a tragic story. In my page the book cover represents the story. The other mermaids have only supporting part of mermaids world in my creation. The first mermaid refers a content of a book.
VastaaPoistaMermaids are fabulous creatures. I would love to see the statue n Copenhagen, Your page is perfect for Elle's AJJ theme, hugs, Chrisx
