My digital postcard for the SPA:s theme 'Alphabets' this week. I've cropped the letters from a paper stack, and made with them the background. A bird family is wondering what on earth these things are, and what are they doing on their backyard 😏

I have another hand made card to show: there is my hand painted girl on the background, which I made tearing pieces from a newspaper.

Olen irrottanut kirjaimet paperiarkilta ja tehnyt niille taustan lintuineen ja koristeineen. Sitten toinen kortti on käsin tekemäni. Siinä on maalaamani tyttö kukka kädessä ja olen repinyt sanomalehdestä paperinpaloja taustalle.

Pahville 6/On Cardboard

Tämän hybridi-kollaasin 'Hiekkaiset varpaat, auringon suutelema nenä' rakentelin käyttäen siinä aiemmin aaltopahville tekemääni korttia.

Olen tehnyt tekstuuria hiekan ja jonkun pastan sekoituksesta ja käyttänyt akryylimaaleja. Tyttö näyttää olevan leike jostakin, ja on siellä aito simpukkakin sekä 'Hetkiä'-tagi. Linkitän työn 'Pahvi'-teemaan Teemakuun Kollaasit 5/2024.

Rantailmat ovatkin juuri saapuneet meillekin. Aurinkoista uutta viikkoa teillekin🌞

My hybrid collage with the earlier hand made card 'Girl on the beach' on the corrugated board. I've made its texture with some sand and paste mix. The girl is a scrap, and I've added there the real seashell and the 'Memories'-tag.

I'm linking the work on 'Cardboard' theme at Teemakuun Kollaasit this month.

The beach time has arrived also here during the last days. Let's enjoy 🌞

The Owl and Amaryllis in the spotlight

This is my hand made crackled 'Owl' in postcard size, from the year 2013. 

I let him represent a face at FFO 😀

I've made this ATC, size 2,5 x 3,5 inch, with it, too.

I framed it now.

'Amaryllis'

And I'd like you to see how my amaryllis has grown since Christmas in front of my kitchen window.

I measured the stem and it's 49 cm, and it's the new stem, I've cut the first one off.

In the Victorian language of flowers, amaryllis means "love, beauty, and determination". 

I agree the last mentioned 'determination' feature 😏

There back throughout the window you see a metro station. My flat is on the 5th floor, so no disturbing from it.

May be the 'Face of Amaryllis' could be my other face for FFO 😊

'Pöllö & Amaryllis parrasvaloissa'

Tämä postikortin kokoinen 'pöllö-kortti' on käsin krakleeraus-tekniikalla v. 2013 tekemäni tuotos. Sattumalta näin sen kuva-arkistossani, ja kun näytti niin symppikseltä, niin annan kunnian päästä FFO-kasvot/haasteblogiin tällä viikolla. Olen tehnyt siitä myös ATC-version ja kehystin sen valokuvan nyt.

Sitten tuo amaryllikseni varsi kasvoi niin mahtavaksi kuin 49 cm.  Toisesta kuvasta, joka on otettu 28.12.2023, näet alkuperäisen koon ja toisen varren alun ensimmäisen kukkavarren sivussa. Ostin kukan lähimarketista enkä aavistanut, että kasvaa näin suureksi. Kukkien viktoriaaninen kieli kertoo amarylliksestä eli jaloritarinkukasta, että se edustaa "rakkautta, kauneutta ja päättäväisyyttä." 

Tuon viimeisen ominaisuuden uskon hyvin kuuluvan sille 😏

Keittiön ikkunan takana näkyy metroasema. Asun ylhäällä 5. kerroksessa, joten siitä ei ole mitään haittaa, vaikka tunneli räjäytettiin tämän talon perustusten alapuolelle ja kaiken lisäksi se kulkee juuri huoneistoni alapuolella. Koska tunneli on 36 metriä perustusten alapuolella, ääniä ei kuulu lainkaan sisälle eikä ulos - mutta räjäytysvaiheessa oli kyllä melkoinen meteli ja pauke, jopa tauluja putosi seiniltä. Valmistumisesta on nyt pari vuotta.

Altered book of Lost Laysen

Size 7,5 x 5 inch

I started to alter this book a week ago, and now I first couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this month's theme of Art Journal Journey. So I start to post these pages now. I think I will have new pages for the whole month. I had already written this post beneath 😀

Above you see the picture of the cover page of the book 'Lost Laysen'. Margaret Mitchell was an American novelist and journalist (1900-1949). Sure you know the famous novel 'Gon with the Wind' and the world wide popular movie made from the book. It is one of the World's all time best selling book. Mitchell wrote only Gon with the Wind published her lifetime. Long after her death a collection of Mitchell's girlhood writing and a novella she wrote as a teenager, titled Lost Laysen, were published. It was discovered hidden in a cache of papers left by a lifelong friend of Mitchell's, Henry Love Angel. He poses in many photos on the pages of the latter published Lost Laysen.

Because I still have a lot of laces and texture pieces from the time I hand made ATCs and cards, I decided to recycle them and use for altering Lost Laysen. Because Margaret Mitchell's youth and active time was in the 1920's era, I tried to use the pictures, which fit on that time. I will post my pages by and by when I get them ready. There in Lost Laysen are also lots of black and white photos from Margaret Mitchel and her friends, especially with Henry Love Angel. Of course I stay keeping them on the pages. I don't alter the novella part of the book, only the part, which tells about the Margaret Mitchell's youth and friends.

Muunneltu kirja 'Lost Laysen'

Ylinnä näet aidon kansikuvan kirjasta (12x19 cm), ja olen muuntelemassa kirjaa kuvittamalla sitä omilla valitsemillani kuvilla ja aiemmin käsintehdyillä ATC- ym. korteilla. Lost Laysen on Margaret Mitchellin nuoruuden aikaisesta elämästä, ystävistään ja kirjeenvaihdosta kertova, ja se sisältää myös hänen vuosikymmeniä kuolemansa jälkeen löytyneen novellin, joka löydyttyään on julkaistu nimellä 

Lost Laysen.

Margaret Mitchell nousi aikoinaan kaikkien aikojen best selleriksi 'Gone with the Wind'/Tuulen viemää-kirjallaan, ja siitä tehty elokuva ylsi maailmanlaajuiseen menestykseen. Mitchellin nuoruus ajoittuu 1920-luvulle, ja olen pyrkinyt käyttämään tuohon aikaan viittaavaa materiaalia. 

Kirja sisältää myös musta/valkoisia kuvia hänen nuoruudestaan, ystävistään erityisesti elämänaikaisesta ystävästään Henri Love Angelista, jonka papereista

 löytyi Lost Laysen-kirjan käsikirjoitus ja em. valokuvat.

Postaan muunneltua kirjaani vähitellen, kun saan sivuja valmiiksi. Tässä näet muuntelemani kannet ja ensimmäisen aukeaman. Minulta löytyy vielä runsaasti pitsejä ja tekstiilin paloja "korttiajaltani" ja haluan kierrättää ne tällä tavalla.

Ja tänään yllätyin suuresti, kun luin uuden tämän kuun teeman olevan 'Kierrätys'!

Nyt minulla on luultavasti koko kuukaudeksi sivuja postattavaksi teemaan😃

My ATC inspiration for Winter

I composed this digital art journal collage page using my handmade ATC:s.

They are the very first of them back to the years 2011-12, when materials were simple. You may know that ATC's size is limited exactly 2,5 x 3,5 inches, and I have changed some sizes for my design of the page. I made that off course digitally when placed them on to my digital background. I finished the work with faint frame lines and some texts and bits. 

I really like how the cards match the page; the cards and the background are the same style, and in addition they bring good memories to me.

Tämän art journal-sivun tein digitekniikalla ja kuvitukseen käytin vanhoja, vuosilta 2011/12 tekemiäni ATC-kortteja. Kuten tietänette niissä on tarkoin määritelty koko 6,4 x 8,9 cm, ja tätä suunnitelmaani varten muutin joidenkin korttien kokoa digitaalisesti, kun asemoin niitä digitaalisesti tekemälleni pohjalle. Korttien materiaalit olivat tuohon aikaan vaatimattomia ja pidän korteista juuri sellaisin. Pidän myös uudesta sivustani; siinä valitsemani tausta ja kortit noudattavat samaa tyyliä. Ja tuovathan kortit mieleeni hyviä muistoja kortti-ystävistäni vaihtoineen tuolta 'kortteilun' ajalta. Viimeistelin sivuni nyt hennoilla reunuksilla, muutamalla tekstillä ja lisukkeilla.

My ATC- booklet wants to be seen

I hope you had a good time at Easter, and now are ready to look forward welcoming summer. Time flies.

I decided to show you a little book, which I found one day from my card box. It's an ATC-sized (2,5x3,5 inch) booklet that folds up from 12 cards. It's twofold, red and blue, and one page turns to the first cover and the last to the back cover (above).

I made the cards with acrylics and black stamping. I had seen one on an Internet page and wanted to try.

Pääsiäinen on vietetty - toivottavasti kaikille se oli hyvä. Nyt on aika siirtyä vastaanottamaan kesää.
Löysinpä eräänä päivänä pienen ATC-kokoisen kirjasen, jonka olen tehnyt akryyleillä ja mustalla leimaamalla.
Olen sen joskus julkaissutkin, mutta näytämpä nyt myös uusille lukijoilleni, jotka eivät ole nähneet.
Se on kaksipuolinen ja taittuu kirjaseksi. Kuten näet toinen pioli on sininen ja toinen punainen. Yksi sivu jää siis etu-, toinen takakanneksi.
Muistan, että sitä oli kiva tehdä ja mallin olin nähnyt netissä.
Mukavaa viikonloppua kaikille tänne piipahtaneille.

Silkun Kesävaihto/Summer Trading of Silkku

Silkku järjesti Kesävaihdon, jossa haasteena oli tehdä:

1 skinny 3x5 tuumaa, 1 trinchie 3x3 tuumaa ja 3 inchie korttia 1x1 tuuma.

Aihe kortteihin oli vapaa, mutta korteilla tuli olla yhteinen juoni.

Silkku's Näperryksiä blog arranged a 'Summer Trading', which means that we were asked to hand made:

PPF-Tea time/Teehetki

I started the new year with a hand made painting for PPF.

This is a 3,5 x 5 inch watercolour painting on a card board.
 The girl looks thoughtful. Maybe she makes plans for this year.
 I made a smal canvas with it cluing the card onto a recycled box .

Aloitin vuoden käsintehdyllä työllä. Maalasin tämän 
9 x 12 cm kortin vesiväreillä. 
Tyttö näyttää mietteliäältä. Ehkä hän tekee suunnitelmia uudelle vuodelle. Tein kortista pienen taulun liimaamalla sen kierrätysrasialle.

 I made a bit quirky 'City Women'-serie's backgrounds colouring a cityplan-print with Distress Inks and making some texture with  molding paste.The images are print cuttings, and I gave them some colouring. Then finished the cards with the taped texts.

It's over a year since I made ATCs. Now I feel needed to do something with "cut and glue".

So I made this card serie and named as 'In woods'. 

First I painted backgrounds with acryl and watercolour brushes without sketching first.

The images are prints and I gave the finishing touch with coloured pencils and added the texts and some embellishment

Siitä on jo yli vuosi, kun viimeksi tein ATC-kortteja. Nyt tuntui siltä, että pitää tehdä jotain 'leikkaa ja liimaa käsin'.

Tein ensin pohjat kortteihin akryyli- ja vesiväreillä suoraan pohjalle, kuvaleikkeet väritin ja parantelin värikynillä. Sitten vaan tekstit ja  koristeita. Kortitsarjan nimesin 'Metsässä' (1-4)

PPF - Girl who loves Poinsettias

Recycled card and mixed-media collage
for Paint Party Friday Week 41, Year 5

I drew first the girl with oilpastels and watercolours on a recycled cardstock, then added pieces of pictures and texts, which were cut off from an old encyclopedia, then a flower and a piece of lace.

 I got an idea to make a collage and use the card as one of elements.

The main background is the freebie, from Karla/Poetic Postcard -blog. Thank you Karla. I added some digital filtters on it.

I placed the girl digitally onto the smaller background and added it and other digital images, and finished the collage with the frame in PSE.

'Tyttö, joka rakastaa Joulutähtiä'
Ensin piirsin ja maalasin tytön kierrätyspahvin palalle öljypastelleilla ja vesiväreillä. Lisäsin korttiin reväistyjä palasia vanhasta tietosanakirjasta sekä pätkän pitsiä.
Mixed-mediatyössä olen digitaalisesti editoinut muut kuvat.
Taustana käysin Karlalta saatua freebietä ja  lisäsin siihen filttereitä photoshopissa, jossa myös viimeistelin työn kehyksellä.

PPF - Girls, friends forever

'Friends forever'
I made experiments with a new kind of background for my painting.
I took a scrap paper, which was only slightly patterned, coloured it with distress inks and made some stamping.
Then I painted the girls with acryl paints onto it. 
I finished the card stamping some white scripts and flower figures with gesso onto the girls . 
The size of  the card is 4,5x6".

'Ikuiset ystävät'
Tein kokeiluja uudenlaisesta taustasta maalaukselleni. Otin hillitysti kuvioidun askartelupaperin ja väritin sitä distress inkeillä sekä tein sille leimailua. Sitten maalasin taustalle tytöt acryyliväreillä. Viimeistelin kortin leimaamalla tyttöjen päälle gessolla teksti- ja kukkakuvioita. 
Kortin koko on 11x15 cm.

As mainly working digitally, I tried to make now a simple handmade card. And that I did could be 

given to a child with a gift, e.g. 

 I've a poor suply of graft materials but found still som from my ATC-cardmaking period.

So, the main image, the elephant with the bird, is a cut off from a magazine. I thought it's nice enough, and I chose other colours from the same colourcombo. I coloured the background with distress inks, used stamps and stencils, added some cut offs, washi tape and a piece of lace. So, here it is.

I think you don't need always planty of new material to make something. Look at first, what is on your stash, and sure there is something to use.

Our design team has made various fabulous projects. Take a look here, and you may get new ideas.

Pyydämme seuraavan kahden viikon aikana sinua

kokeilemaan jotain uutta.

Minä tein yksinkertaisen käsintehdyn kortin, jonka voi antaa esim. lapselle lahjan kera. Koska pääasiassa työskentelen digitaalisesti, paperiaskarteluun tarkoitettu tarpeistoni on hyvin suppea. Jotain vielä kuitenkin löytyy ATC-korttiharrastuksen ajoilta.

Korttini pääkuva, elefantti ja lintu, on lehtileike. Mielestäni sen värit ovat mukavat ja valitsin muutkin värit samasta skaalasta.

Väritin taustan distress-musteilla, käytin leimoja ja sabluunoita, lisäsin joitakin leikkeitä, washi-teippiä ja palan pitsiä.

Ja siinä se on. Ei aina tarvita uusia materiaaleja, vaan paras katsoa ensin, mitä löytyy työpöydältä. Ja varmasti siellä on jotain käyttökelpoista.

DT-tiimimme on tehnyt monenlaisia hienoja projekteja. Käyhän katsomassa täällä, ja saat ehkä uusia ideoita.
