Summer nights/Kesäyöt

My hybrid art journal work for the Chris's challenge theme 'Hot Summer/Nights' at Art Journal Journey.

I used the part of my earlier handmade work (beneath) from which I cropped the acryl painted girl and bird, and now connected with my new digitally made illustration of a silent summer night, and typed the quote of Confucius. I made the color and all other alterations in my photoshop program.

Hybridi-työni teemaan 'Kuumat kesäyöt', jonka tein käyttäen siinä käsin maalaamaani tyttöä ja lintua, jotka irrotin aiemmin tekemästäni mixed-media-työstäni ja muunsin värityksen fotosopissani filttereillä ja tehosteilla. Viimeistelin mietelauseella:

 Now I added digitally more elements, filtered and effected in the new version, and typed the text onto the new background paper.

I can identify with the words 'hot, hot' hot!!", because new records have been made concerning the temperatures and their lengths in our county this summer.

on uusi art journal hybrid- työni 'Kuuma kesä'-teemaan. Käytin siinä aiemmin käsin akryylein/öljypastellein maalaamaani työtä, johon lisäsin nyt digitaalisesti elementtejä, filttereitä ja tehosteita sekä kirjoitin sanat, joihin voimme samaistua täällä Suomessa lämpöennätysten keston merkeissä.

I liked to give it a 'loose' outlook with digital painting brushed, digital overlays, the message: with your incomplete outlook you are permitted to love also yourself...

I've handmade this painting in 2017 for the theme 'Native American', teared a special paper, can't remember it's name, to pieces and painted them with acrylics. The bison was drawn and painted by me, too..

Now I added digitally the freebie photo of the Indian face on the earlier made background.

Business men's world/Liikemisten maailmaa

'Business'
"Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of  learning."

For the Matilde's theme 'People' at Art Journal Journey.

I chose these vintage business related images from my files, and compounded in my photoshop the above digital collage, which is a kind of interpretation of the business world including the instructive quote of 'unhappy customers.' 🤨

I liked to add also a woman picture among the men's world 😊

I found this my book cover work made in 2015. There is 'Sarah', who was one of the first girl portraits from the time I started to paint by hand them. I've made digitally the other part of the book cover. 'Otava' is a publishing house in Finland. 

So it's a hybrid - then they were called mixed media works.

'Liike-elämästä'

AJ-digityöni teemaan 'Ihminen', missä kuvailen vintage-aikaista yritysmaailmaa. Lisäsin opettavaisen lauseen: 'Tyytymättömät asiakkaasi ovat paras oppimisen lähteesi.'🤨

Kuvat löytyivät arkistostani ja koostin kollaasityön fotosopissani.

Halusin kuitenkin ottaa naisia mukaan tähän miesten maailmaan, ja löysin sattumalta tekemäni kirjankannen vuodelta 2015, 'Saran ajatuksia ystävyydestä'. Siinä on 'Sara' - tyttö, joka on ensimmäisiä käsin maalaamiani kasvokuvia. Tein niitä jonkin aikaa samalla nimikkeelä 'Sarah/Sara'. Kannen olen tehnyt digitaalisesti (muistaakseni aloitin digeilyn 2014), joten kansi on nyt hybridi - siihen aikaan sanottiin 'mixed-media'.

My hybrid art journal page for the Erika's theme 'Spring Birds' at Art Journal Journey Challenge this month.

I've acryl painted the girl and set on the background that I've made with textile pieces. Now I stamped her a dress with digital stamping tool. I think it fits her quite well 😊

All other images are chosen from my archive, and I finished the page typing the quote.

Hatching bird/Hautova lintu

I've earlier painted the girl face and its background with colored pencils, and now made it a hybrid page adding digitally the bird and nest images, as well as made a new text onto the BG. You see the original painting beneath.

I cropped her from the background and used it after filtering alterations in my digital work with other images, which I chose from my files, and set all on the background, which was made with digital painting brushes and effects by me. I think I get a quite good movement into my art work.

Hybridi-työni teemaan 'Peilin läpi'. Irrotin pään alkuperäisestä akryylimaalauksestani ja lisäsin sen tekemälleni taustalle muiden valitsemieni kuvien ja tehosteiden kera. Taustan tein maalaamalla digitaalisesti maalaussiveltimillä ja lisäämällä tehosteita. Sain mielestäni kuvaani aika hyvän liikkuvuusefektin.

Magic of Autumn leaf 'Life is a Gift'

My hybrid art journal page for the theme 'Autumn colors and Inspiration' by Alison at Art Journal Journey this month.

I used my above hand painted acryl portrait as one of the elements in my hybrid work. The 'magic' leaf on the page is picked up from nature by me, dried and scanned. Other elements and the background are from my files. I've effected the work with several digital filters, and finished it typing the text.

I created this hybrid art journal work for the Art Journal Journey, Alison's theme 'Autumn colors and Inspiration' this month using the material that you see beneath:

 My hand painted acryl work.

The princes image from my files.

I made my inspiration layout with my hand painted face and two backgrounds using digital tools: layer masks, digital filters, frames, and text writing tools. I finished my hybrid work adding the orange overlay and the green overlay to illustrate that the summer maiden is leaving her colors to autumn sinking down, and the autumn maiden is growing more orange and red to her season.

The text is telling that they do this whispering with conspire, and part with smile.

'Kun kesä kohtaa syksyn'... 'he tekevät kuiskien salaisen sopimuksen ja erotessaan hymyilevät'.

Tämän hybridi-työn tein teemaan 'Syksyn värit ja inspiraatio'. Siihen käytin syksyisiä taustakuvia, 

joihin lisäsin käsin maalaamani kasvon layerimaskien avulla; samoin prinsessa-kuvan arkistostani esittämään kesää luovuttamassa värinsä syksylle, joka kuitenkin lisää vain omia oranssi-punavärejä heidän salaisen sopimuksensa mukaisesti.

Näin kesä vajoaa ja kääntyy syksyksi.

State of mind 💕 Mielentila

I made the above 4-color hybrid page using my hand painted b/w portrait after I altered it digitally a fore color image, and used it as a main element on my art journal page. I made her a background with images, which I liked and chose from my files. I finished the work with several color and light digital filters and framed the ready work. 

You see there on my work beautiful images of nature, and images with bright and soft colors; they just make my mind peaceful and happy.

'Kesätunnelmissa'

Tämän hybridityön tein teemaan 'Mikä tekee minut onnelliseksi', ja sopinee myös Teemakuun 'Kesäfiiliksiin'.

Siinä käytin aikaisemmin maalaamaani musta/valkoista akryyli-muotokuvaa muunneltuani sen ensin digitalisesti neliväriseksi, ja käytin sitä pääkuvana. 

Tein taustan arkistosta valitsemillani kuvilla ja lisäämällä taustalle tunnelmaa valo- ja väriefekteillä.

Näet, että sivullani on kaunista kesäistä luontoa ja kirkkaita sekä pehmeitä värejä, joista yleensäkin pidän. 

Yhdessä ne muodostavat rauhallisen kokonaisuudet, missä mielenikin lepää. 

'Rauha on mielentila.'

Hyvää alkanutta kesäkuuta; ja kiitos kommentista ja käynnistäsi 💙

Early Summer 🌞

" Full of joy is early Summer,

Growth and warmth and golden light;

Every day is crowned by beauty,

Full of loveliness the night.

Dazzling sunshine brings the roses,

Fills the whole bright world with bloom;

Day and night rejoice together,

Banished now are doubt and gloom.

The above words are from the lovely poem "Early Summer" by Ellwood Roberts (1846-1921). The poem celebrates the joy and beauty of the early summer season. I typed the first verse, and there are two of them more; and I could make them another illustration next time.

I used a part of my acrylic portrait beneath:

I've painted her on a crumbled paper bag.

I found the old nature photo from my files, and think it's perfect for the poem.

'Runous'-teemaan löysin vanhan maisemakuvan arkistostani ja katsoin sen sopivan hyvin runoon, jonka olin valinnut tähän teemaan. Kasvomaalaus on osa vanhasta työstäni rypistetylle paperipussille.

Runon on kirjoittanut Ellwood Roberts (1846-1921),ja on kaunis ylistys alkavalle kesälle:

"Täynnä iloa on alkanut kesä,

Kasvu ja lämpö, ja kultainen valo:

Jokainen päivä on kruunattu kauneudella.

Ihanuutta täynnä yöt.

Kimaltava auringonpaiste tuo ruusut,

Saavat koko valoisan maailman kukkimaan;

Päivä ja yö iloitsevat yhdessä,

Karkotettu on pelko ja synkkyys."

En tiedä menikö tämä käännökseni runomittaan, mutta aihe kuitenkin selvinnee.

Tämä on runon ensimmäinen säe ja niitä on kolme. Teen ehkä niistä uuden tulkinnan samaan teemaan myöhemmin.

Iloitkaamme siis alkavasta kesästä mekin ja toivotaan, että se on kuin runoa;

hyvää viikonloppua kaikille 🍀

'Woman in straw boater'

I started this painting process with acrylics. I make always a sketch before hand.  Now you see it beneath.

I painted the background in a 4,5 x 6,5 inch size on a mixed media paper with acrylics, and I am satisfied how it turned out in different grey/green tones. Then I got an idea to paint the woman in my photoshop program with digital brushes and a mouse. So I scanned the background and sent it to my photoshop program. Painting with the mouse on the desktop screen is 'hand painting' as well, and it's more difficult than to paint with brushes on a paper; your hand must to be very steady. Anyway, I started to paint on the desktop screen. The most difficult task was to draw her hands with the mouse. 

This is the first time I paint 'hybrid' this way. I've painted fauvism-style portraits with digital brushes on the screen before, but not on my hand made background like I did this time. The topic of the portrait is not mine - I followed one of Kees van Dongen's woman portrait.

Linkitän maalaukseni myös huhtikuun Teemakuun Kollaasit 'Maalaus' keväisin värein-haasteeseen. Vihreän sävyt ja olkihattu maalauksessa vievät ainakin minut keväisiin jopa kesäisiin tunnelmiin. Maalaukseni edustaa fauvismi-taidetyyliä, jossa kirkkaat värit vieläpä muotokuvien kasvoissa ovat mm. sen tunnusmerkkejä.

Teen aina lyijykynäluonnoksen ennen kuin maalaan muotokuvat. Ylhäällä näet tämän työn, jolle maalasin taustan akryyleillä. Maalauksen tein poikkeuksellisesti hybridinä: päätinkin kokeilla, miten muotokuvan maalaus onnistuisi taustalleni fotoshopissa hiirellä käsin tietokoneen kuvaruudulla. Olen jo aiemmin maalannut juuri fauismi-tyyliä siten, mutta en kahta tekniikkaa käyttäen. Skannasin käsin maalaamani  taustan ja siirryin siis fotoshoppiin. Hiirellä digisiveltimillä maalaaminen on kyllä käsin paperille maalaamista vaikeampaa millintarkkaa työtä, mutta värit saa kätevämmin valittua ja niitä on suuri valikoima. Nuo kädet olivat vaikein osa piirtää hiirellä. Muotokuvan aihe noudattelee osin erästä ranskalaisen fauvismi-tyylillä maalanneen Kees van Dongen'in maalaamaa muotokuvaa. Olen tyytyväinen sekä käsin akryyleillä maalaamaani harmaa/vihreä-sävyiseen taustaan että hiirellä maalattuun 'Olkihattupäiseen naiseen', joten teenpä näin joskus toistenkin.

Towards the light/Valoa kohti

'Towards the Light.'

I made this hybrid page using my earlier painted acryl portrait beneath. 

I cropped it out of its background and created this new background. 

I made a lot of filtering and effecting on the BG, and with digital painting brushes gave the yellow light impression on it. That gives - I hope - the 'Forwards the light.'-meaning to may work. The bird is a Itkupilli-image, but I altered its color and added the outer glow, which glow I added also around the portrait.

'Valoa kohti'

Tämän hybridi-työn tein käyttäen siinä käsin maalaamaani akryyli-kasvokuvaa, jonka irrotin alkuperäisestä taustasta. Nyt tein sille digitaalisesti uuden taustan, jota filtterein tehostin ja digisiveltimillä maalasin keltaista 'valoefektiä' suuremmaksi - se antaa työlleni merkityksen 'Valoa kohti'. Lintu on Itkupilli-kuva, mutta muutin sen värin ja lisäsin ulkoisen efektin, ja samoin tein naisen kuvalle.

Kevättä ja valoa kohti mennään - 

hyvää viikonloppua kaikille 🌞

Redhaired woman in the 1920's spotlight

 

My digital alteration from the same redhaired hand painted girl, which I've presented you being altered in different way recently.

The sconce is of the art deco style from the 1920's era. I designed my alteration with my photoshop tools. I don't alter my targets like 'Artificial Intelligence' images are done, and which then are looking artificial 'dolls' with china faces. I try to create with my alterations some messages of my art. Which is in this face alteration the moving light from the sconce on the girl's face.

'Punatukka 1920-luvun valokeilassa'

Käytin tässä hybridityössäni samaa käsin tehtyä tytön kuvaa, jonka näitte hiljattain eri tavalla muunneltuna. Suunnittelin ja toteutin sen fotoshoptyökaluilla. En tee muuntelemilleni kohteille 'Tekoälyllä' tuotettujen kaltaisia kuvia, joissa kasvoista tehdään posliinin sileitä luonnottomuuksia - enkä pidä sitä edes taiteena.

Yritän saada muunnelmani välittämään sanomaa, joka sisältyy työhöni. Tässä  tapauksessa, kun teemana on valo, että se näkyy kohteen kasvoilla ja lisäksi kertoo Victor Hugo'n mietteen "Rakastaa kauneutta on nähdä valoa". 

Jännittävää, vilkasta vaaliviikonloppua toivotan kaikille meille. 

The beauty living in a tree

I made this hybrid fantasy photo/drawing alteration with my mobile photo and hand made drawing, the both of them are beneath. For the hybrid page I digitally added some filters and finished the work with layer masks.

The photo was taken in 2022, when I was walking along my 'Nordic walking' path.

'Puussa asuva kaunotar'

Tämän hybridi fantasian tein käyttäen taustana m/v 'kännykkä'-valokuvaa, jonka olen ottanut sauvakävelypolkuni varrelta. Siirsin sille digitalisesti kerrosmaskien avulla käsin piirtämäni muotokuvan sekä lisäsin taustalle muutaman digitalisen filtterin. Näet  alkuperäiset kuvat yllä.

Symbolism of the Wild Animals

My hybrid art journal page for the Jo's theme 'Nature' at Art Journal Journey,

and the theme 'Symbol' of Millin at Teemakuun Kollaasit.

My interpretation is based on the Antique Mythology, especially on Diana, the Goddess of Forests and Wild animals (among other things).

I used my hand painted portrait as the face of Diana.
