My digitally drawn and painted art journal work. I've earlier drawn the girl's head with digital drawing- and painting brushes of Photoshop with a mouse on the computer screen. She is the very first digital drawings, made 2015 in my Photoshop, and I named her Sarah. I've made Sarah's dress, butterfly and the bird on her head cutting them from the cardboards. 

Now I compounded the new background with digital collage technique with many image and overlay materials that I chose from my archive. I finished the page typing the quote and adding the frame.

Digitaalisesti tekemäni art journal-sivu, jossa on aiemmin Fotosopin kynillä ja siveltimillä tietokoneen kuvaruudulla hiirellä piirtämäni tytön pää. Olen antanut hänelle nimen Sarah, ja hän on ensimmäisiä digitaalisesti piirtämiä/maalaamiani kuvia vuodelta 2015. Tein hänelle silloin mekon sekä perhosen ja linnun leikkaamalla ne kuviollisista pahveista. Nyt taustan koostin runsain arkistosta valitsemin materiaalein, ja viimeistelin työn kirjoittamalla mietteen ja lisäämällä kehyksen.

The sky is a canvas/Taivas on 'kangas'

 My hybrid art journal work with the background that I created with the 'layer mask' technique in my photoshop program. I used there my hand painted portrait that you see beneath, and the image and overlay material which I chose from my archive.

My Steampunk interpretation in the art journal page form. 

I designed and layered it digitally in my photoshop. First I made the background giving it the texture and light effect filters that grey of steam looks well, then added the images of the steampunk style, then steam layers, and finished the page typing the text: 

'All her buttons on...☸'

Summer nights/Kesäyöt

My hybrid art journal work for the Chris's challenge theme 'Hot Summer/Nights' at Art Journal Journey.

I used the part of my earlier handmade work (beneath) from which I cropped the acryl painted girl and bird, and now connected with my new digitally made illustration of a silent summer night, and typed the quote of Confucius. I made the color and all other alterations in my photoshop program.

 My hybrid art journal page for the Elle's 'Cats, books and tea' theme at Art Journal Journey this month.

I cropped my hand painted 'Girl and Cat' from its original wet colored pencil painting below, and made the new background for it with old images from my files.

Now they are enjoying their favorite place siting in the sofa with a cup of tea. Of course the kitten has got her milk before hand 🐱

Greetings from Mediterranean Sea countries

My old photos, which are taken when I was on holidays in the countries or the islands of the European side of the Mediterranean Sea. Spain, Italy, Greek, and the islands: Sicily (Italy), Kos, Crete, Samos, Rhodos (Greek) are the countries and islands I've visited once or more. 

 Just last week it was in news that Etna, the only still active and the biggest volcano in Europe, in Sicily was active, but this didn't cause any harm to people. You see Etna in the third picture on the top of the page. I traveled to look at it, when visited Taormina, Sicily and it was worth of seeing. In the photo below I'm visiting my friend staying in her house in Benalmadena, Costa del Sol, Spain. 

Maybe I'll make more a page to present the Canary Islands, which are more near the Africa coast, and are located in the Atlantic Ocean consisting of several islands. I have visited most of them.

Terveiseni Välimeren Euroopan puoleisista maista, joissa olen viettänyt lomia.

Kuvia ei ole kollaasissani kaikista maista ja mukana on myös kuvia saarista, jotka ovat yllä mainitulla alueilla: Espanja, Italia, Kreikka, ja näihin kuuluvat saaret: Sisilia (Italia), Kos, Kreeta, Samos, Rhodos (Kreikka). Kuvassa ylhäällä kolmas oikealla näkyy Etna, tulivuori Sisiliassa. Viime viikolla uutisoitiin, että Etna purkautuu. Se on ainoa edelleen aktiivinen ja suurin tulivuori Euroopassa. Paikalliset asukkaat ovat tottuneet siihen eikä nytkään aiheutunut vahinkoa ihmisille. Kun olin Sisilian Taorminan matkalla, kävin katsomassa Etnaa. Näytti mahtavalta ja vähän pelottavaltakin. En taaskaan löytänyt kuvia tästä retkestä. Taisi olla ennen digikamera aikaa. Etna näkyy ylhäällä 3.kuva oikealla. Kollaasissani kuvien alarivissä olen ystävättäreni vieraana  Espanjan Costa del Solilla Benalmadenassa. Talo näkyy ylempänä oikealla.

Kanarian saaret sijaitsevat Atlantin valtameressä, eivät Välimeressä, ja palaan ehkä vielä niihinkin matkoihin teeman 'Missä päin maailmaa' puitteissa.

Madeira, Funchal

Monte Palace Tropical Garden in Madeira

                                              

The Monte Palace Tropical Garden occupies an area at 70,000m2, and has been replanted with exotic flora from different continents and with typical plants from the Laurissilva Forest, which was classified by UNESCO.

Above you see my digital Art Journal page, which I composed with a leaflet's and my own photos taken when I visited Madeira in 2004 and 2005.

Madeira, the Island in Atlantic Ocean belongs to Portugal, and has been my favorite holiday place at my older age. There are mild, warm, not hot climate all over the year. I've visited there in autumns and around Christmas, when in Southern Europe weather is already rainy. 

Madeira has very beautiful nature rich of flowers and green plants and blooming trees. Funchal is the capital city and most of hotels are there.

 The Monte Palace Tropical Garden  where is also The Monte Palace Museum, which has three galleries for collections of minerals and gems, is located outside the town about on the middle of the island.  

The Garden has old British, and international history. I made the upper part of my journal page using pictures taken from a leaflet, and photos under it are the photos taken on my visits. In the lowest of them you see the sea, and the photo of Hotel Mare, where I used to stay in Funchal. 

The orchid garden in Funchal is lovely place to visit, as well.

Tein yllä olevan Art Journal työni digitaalisesti ja käytin siinä yläosassa esitteestä ottamiani kuvia ja alaosassa omia siellä vuosina 2004 ja 2005 otettuja valokuvia.

Kuten varmaankin tiedät Madeira kuuluu Portugalille, ja Funchal on saaren pääkaupunki. Hotellit ovat keskittyneet sinne. Ilmastoltaan se on ihanteellinen meille, jotka emme välitä kuumuudesta ja rannoilla makoilusta. Nuorempana kyllä pidin siitäkin, mutta vanhemmiten Madeira on ollut lempikohteitani syksyisin, kun etelä-Euroopassa on jo sateista. Olen vieraillut siellä myös joulun tienoilla.

Ylinnä näet kuvia upeasta Trooppisesta puutarhasta, joka sijaitsee saaren keskiosassa. Sillä on vanha 1800-luvulle ulottuva kansainvälinen historia. Sinne on istutettu muista maanosista tuotuja trooppisia kasveja. Puistossa on myös museo , jossa mineraali- ja jalokivikokoelmia.

Alinna on kuva hotellista, missä usein Funchalissa asuin. Kaupungissa on ihanan verhreää, paljon kukkivia pensaita ja puita, ja kauempana keskustasta löytyy orkkidea-puutarhakin. Kuvia voi klikkaamalla nähdä tarkemmin.

Everythings can fly

'Everythings can fly, it's moving fast enough'

I got an idea to create an art journal page using my old hand made tag, which you see beneath, and the illustrated version from the year 2014 under it. It wasn't ever published, because it was rejected because I wasn't invited to that blog 😏

 Now I cropped it out from its background, and made a totally new hybrid page, and added the clever quote I found from the web. All other elements are from my files.

When hearts turn into a butterfly

This hybrid art journal page was made using my three face portraits (below), which I have painted with acrylics. Now I made for them a new background digitally and crated a layout, and added also the other images from my files, and typed the quote on the BG. Mother's Day 2023

 I made this art Journal Page for the Aimeslee's theme 'Flowers' At Art Journal Journey this month. We celebrated Mother's Day last Sunday, and I received through Interflora the bunch of flowers from my son. He is not in Finland just now. I love the flowers; orchids, roses, peonies... in my favorite colors.

Below you see the photo of them in a vase.

Vietimme äitienpäivää viime sunnuntaina, ja sain Interflora-lähetyksenä pojaltani kuvassa olevan kukkakimpun. Rakastan ruusuja, orkideoita, pioneja lempiväreissäni.

Tein kimpusta art journal-sivun sekä kukista otin kuvan myös  maljakossa.

Shine of the soul

I altered the beneath being woman photo and made her digitally a new background  and the text 'Do what makes your soul shine', 

I added the flowers, some embellishments and overlays on the page. I finished the work with an extra shine, which I digitally added onto her beautiful brown skin, because it also shines.

More Lost Laysen-pages

Margaret Peg Mitchell and Henry Love Angel have making fun on the rails.

The "gang" at "House Party #3. Henry and Peggy stand looking over friends. With the exception of Mitchell a number of the women worked together at the War Office.

I cut the left hand page 1/2, so the piece of the previous page can be seen. Both pages' cards are my old ATCs. On the right hand page Peggy is spending time on the countryside staying in one of her friend's cottage near a golf club, and wrote the long letter to Henry. A small part of it: Tune "Alice Blue Gown"

In my sweet little bathing suit when I first slid down the chute-the-chute. I love both land and sky for I caught every eye and shocked all the people who were passing by. Home Sunday or Monday. Get my letter? Peg

And here she has sent her photo to Henry. "Some point Henry finally did get his swimsuit picture." The other pictures are my old ATCs.

On The Photo above Henry is sitting on the carriage, and fooling with his friends. The two ATCs are made by me long time ago.

Ensimmäisellä aukeamalla näemme, miten Margaret ja Henry hassuttelevat raiteilla.

When words escape

Red is an attitude

My mixed media Art journal page for the Erika's this month's theme 'Seeing Red' at Art Journal Journey.

You see on it my hand  with acrylics painted girl portrait. Now I added her digitally on my handmade with napkin and the blue color made poppy background. I made it on a printed paper.

 Now I made the tag digitally  and typed the quote 'Red isn't just a color, it's an attitude' on it.

'Punainen ei ole vain väri, se on asenne'

Tämän mixed media/Art journal-sivu tein käsin tekemälleni 'Unikko' servietille, jonka olen liimannut printtipaperille ja käyttänyt lisäksi sinistä akryylimaalia.

Nyt lisäsin sille käsin akryyleillä maalaamani ruutumekkoisen tytön sekä tein tagin ja kirjoitin sille mieteleuseen.

'Pipe Dream' Art Journal Book

Front and Back cover

'Keep your eyes on the Stars and your feet on the ground.'

The size of the book is 7x4 inch. I used the old print of mine as the cover pages. The picture inspired me to name the book 'Pipe Dream'. The girl is scrap and I made a cluster, which you see there. I made the binding  with the paper, which I have made from  a Color Core paper. It is quite heavy. When I made the paper, I worked with gesso and added some black lace on it. I have it quite a lot, and have also used pieces of it on some pages of this book. The hanging embellishment is a lovely present from a talented Finnish artist and my blog friend Silkku/Näperryksiä blog. She hand makes many kind of art.

All material of this book are old scraps from my files, some are my old handmade drawings/paintings, and I glued all on an old book pages. 

You are welcome to look at the part of the pages. I will post more later on.

'Pilvilinna' Art journal-kirja.

'Pidä katseesi tähdissä ja jalkasi maassa.'

Tämän pienen kirjan koko on 10x17 cm ja siinä on 14 aukeamaa ja tein ne kaikki vanhasta kirjasta ottamilleni sivuille. Näytän loput 9 myöhemmin. Tein ne kaikki käsin vanhoista silpuista, jotkut ovat vanhoja piirroksia/maalauksiani tai osia vanhoista töistäni. Kannet ovat vanha tulostukseni paksuhkolle paperille. Kirjan nimi 'Pilvilinna' tulee torneista kuvassa, tyttö on leikekuva ja tein koristeen vanhoista silpuista. Selustan kirjaan tein paksusta paperista, jonka olen joskus tehnyt Color Core-paperille liimaamalla sille pitsiä ja gessoa. Paperia on paljon jäljellä ja olen sitä käyttänyt joihinkin sivuihin paloina. Tuon kauniin riipuksen olen saanut kauan sitten Silkulta ja otin  sen nyt käyttöön tähän, kiitos Silkku, pidän siitä paljon!

Näet etukannet ja takakasien sisäosan, ennen kuin sidoin sivut kirjaan. Niitä on vaikea kuvata sidonnan jälkeen.

I am making a new journaling book. Its size is 7x4 inch and is not yet ready. However this page was just under the work, when Erika announced this month's theme at Art Journal Journey. So I finished the spread and link it on the Erika's theme 'Seeing Red' at Art Journal Journey this month.

Because there are many faces, I also link it on Nicole's/DVArtist 'Friday Face Off' this week.

The spread is handmade with my doodling and scraps from my files. I layered all on an old book's pages with napkin pieces. It's why you see Finnish words on the background. I cut the man images out of the same book and used them on my own creation. Now the strong red color gives them the rebirth of beginning as the quote says. 

I will show all other pages and covers later when I have finished them or part of them. I wonder how there in my files still are those old scraps, and I used 10 year old inks on the backgrounds, and the inks still work 😏

'Punainen väri on todellinen uudelleen syntymän alku.' - Andrea Condic

Olen taas tekemässä journal kirjasta enkä osaa sanoa miksi se nyt digitöiden sijaan on niin mieluista. Vaihtelu kai? Nyt kirjasen koko on 10x18 cm - sattui olemaan sen kokoinen ja paksuinen vanha tuloste, joka sopi kansiksi. Olin juuri tekemässä tätä punaista aukeamaa, kun ilmoitettiin helmikuun uusi teema Art Journal-blogissa. Niinpä tein sen valmiiksi ja linkitän teemaan.

Koostin sivut vanhan kirjan sivuille ja käytin pohjaan servietin paloja ja vanhoja leikekuvia sekä käsin kynällä ja musteilla tekemiäni reunuksia ja valmiita tekstejä. Nuo miesten päät ovat samasta kirjasta leikkaamiani ja punainen väri  sytyttää ne uuteen alkuun kuten mietelausekin sanoo. Näytän kannet ja muut sivut, kunhan saan niitä valmiiksi. En ymmärrä mistä tuota silppua edelleen riittää ja miten 10 vuotta vanhat mustetyynyt edelleen toimivat 😏
